More snow-proof in Stöten
Stöten has invested in snowmaking systems that can produce up to 50 per cent more snow during marginal temperatures compared to previous years. Marginal temperatures mean temperatures between minus one to minus five degrees.
So we have increased snow production over a higher range of sub-zero temperatures and with the new snow system, our slopes and three ski centres can open faster. This is especially good news for guests who come here early in the season. Our ability to have many slopes open early has increased significantly.
Snowmaking
Snowmaking allows us to open our slopes earlier and keep the snow longer. As soon as the weather conditions are right, with the right humidity and temperature, we start producing snow in the facility. During the season, our skilled snowmakers work around the clock to get the slopes as good as possible for the season. The slopes are covered with a 60-70 cm thick layer of artificial snow.

Cannon snow
The grains of cannon snow are denser, rounder and more compact, making it more resistant to heat and wear than natural snow. It is therefore excellent for laying at the beginning of the season.

The snow is deposited by snow guns, which atomise water and push it into the air using powerful fans or compressed air. In the air, the water droplets turn into snow crystals that fall down the slope.
The air should be dry when you make snow, and there should be a light, steady wind. This allows the water to travel further and more water molecules to freeze into snow. Ideally, there should also be frost in the ground before the snow is laid; snow insulates and the cold stays in the ground longer.
The water for the snow cannons is pumped up from the River Görälven. After the season, the snow melts and the water flows back into the river again. So all that is used is clean water from the river and electricity for fans and compressed air.
But natural snow is also very important. It's what lands on the trees and makes the whole mountain world look so magical. Most people prefer to ski on a surface that is a mixture of natural and artificial snow as the slope "holds" all day but is still not perceived as icy.
Skiing rules
To ensure that it is safe and secure even on the piste, you who use the facility must follow the yoke control which we set up together with the industry organisation SLAO.
