Cross-country skiing

45 kilometres of cross-country tracks for both classic and skate

In Stöten you will find 45 kilometres of well-prepared cross-country tracks for both classic and skate styles, varying in length and difficulty. The tracks are six metres wide and start from four different track centres: Stöten Ranch, Stötentorget, Soltorget and Kronoparken.

At the cross-country centre next to Stötentorget, there is a 200-metre test loop on flat ground in the shape of a circle, perfect for getting used to your skis before hitting the trails.

Cross-country tracks in the mountains

Want to combine skiing with sweeping views? On Kalfjället there are two high-altitude trails that offer perhaps the most beautiful views in the mountains:

  1. The 3-kilometre summit trail starts at the top of the WC Express and winds its way across the mountain with 360-degree views of both Swedish and Norwegian mountains.
  2. The 16 km Östra Granfjällsturen is a real mountain adventure around Östra Granfjället, 948 metres above sea level. You take the WC Express up, ski an easy downhill stretch to the top of Mormors Störtlopp and then follow the track around the mountain, past Närfjällsstugan and along the snowmobile track back to the lift.

Trails open as soon as snow conditions allow and are laid with the greatest possible respect for nature. They are at their best in spring-winter and when the weather permits.

All our cross-country trails in the valley are completely free of charge except SkiPass to the top trails. Do you lack a SkiPass? Don't worry, disposable passes are available at reception.

Access to the top tracks

You get up to the tracks with the WC Express. The same lift also takes you back down. The WC Express is the only lift that allows cross-country skis for safety reasons. Ask the lift staff if you want more information - they will also help you get on and off the lift.

Always ski with skis in hand. When descending, ride a maximum of 4 people per chair and only every other chair.

Opening hours of the WC Express lift

  • First ride up: 09:00
  • Last ride up: 15:00
  • Last ride down: 16:00

PLEASE NOTE! It is not allowed to walk up the slopes or go downhill with cross-country skis.

Waxing sheds in Stöten

Good grip and glide make all the difference. Stöten has four waxing sheds - one at Stöten Ranch and three at Skidtorget - where you can wax, adjust or just prepare your equipment before the tour.

Tips for beginners in cross-country skiing

If you are a beginner cross-country skier, we recommend that you try the Training Trail (5 km marked in yellow on the length map) for a start. It's a great start to your cross-country career! Lysrundan (3 km marked in green on the length map) is our shortest trail, but the round contains some challenging terrain and is therefore suitable for the more experienced cross-country skier.

At the cross-country centre next to Soltorget there is a 200m long test loop on flat ground in the form of a circle to get used to the skis before heading out on the tracks down into the valley, which starts with a long downhill run.

Important to consider

The weather in the mountains can change quickly. Therefore, always check the weather forecast and the lift report before setting off. Dress in layers and be aware that the wind can make it much colder than the temperature indicates.

All mountain activities are at your own risk, so be well prepared!
