I ski shops located in Stöten's new Ski Lodge, at Soltorget, the focus is on making the rental experience as smooth as possible. Martin Skogstad, department manager of Stöten Skishop, says that they have chosen not to hand out ski boots and skis together over the counter but have a separate boot station.
- It's rarely the ski that's the problem, but the boot. It's the wrong size, it's too narrow or it pinches your calf. That's why we have a special boot station where you get personal help from knowledgeable staff so that you get the right boot right away. Then you can just go ahead and choose your skis.
Rent skis before you buy - try them out
Renting skis gives you the opportunity to try different levels and adapt the ski for different surfaces. Narrow skis work well on freshly groomed slopes, but if the weather forecast shows snowfall, the wider alpine skis are more suitable. This way you can get the best experience on the slopes," says Martin.
If you are thinking of buying new skis, Martin thinks you should take the opportunity to rent skis before buying. It goes without saying that skis are best tested when you try them on a slope. In his experience, girls often underestimate themselves and choose an easier level, so his advice to them is to dare to try more advanced skis. Better skis simply make for a better experience.

The skis are put away without being waxed or the cracks in the coating being taken care of. That's why when it's time to pick them up again, they're not in the best of moods - they're dull, tired and dried out. They need a little extra love. Martin's advice is therefore to sharpen and wax the skis every season. He often hears excuses like "those are good enough for me" or "I only ski with the kids". If you take your skis in for servicing, they will thank you with much more fun skiing and a longer lifespan - in other words, hundreds of euros well invested.
