Skiing with children

Make skiing fun - 6 tips for the best skiing experience!

Skiing with children can be the best family activity there is. When introducing your children to skiing, you want to do everything you can to create the best skiing experience possible. That's why in this article we give you our top 6 tips for skiing with kids!

Introducing children to skiing

In a previous article, we shared some useful tips and exercises that you can use to practise teach your children to ski. In this article, we will focus on how to create the best skiing experience for your children. Below we give you 4 simple tips and advice to help you create new fun experiences together:

  • Skiing is all about cosiness, coffee and fellowship. Of course, the feeling of whizzing down the mountain is unbeatable, but when it comes to skiing with the kids, the skiing experience is often more about hygge, fika and socialising. Skiing is actually only a small part of the whole skiing experience, most of the time is actually spent with everything else around, so make sure they have a great time!
  • Start with short days. To keep your skiing experience as positive as possible, we recommend that you start your introduction to skiing with short days. This way, you can keep your spirits and energy up for a longer period of time. After all, the goal is to get everyone excited about hitting the slopes the very next day.
  • Everyone develops at their own pace. Many children start skiing at the age of 3. Others take longer. Similarly, some children stay on the children's slopes for several weeks, while others quickly try more difficult slopes. Children's development is highly individual and it is important that you as a parent respect that. Don't force anyone onto a difficult piste too early.
  • If someone gets grumpy, it's okay to bribe - If the mood or energy level of someone in the family starts to drop, it can be very smart to offer some chocolate biscuits or raisins. It's okay to bribe, and a bit of quick energy can go a long way to keeping calm.

How children develop is highly individual and it is important that you, as a parent, respect that - don't force someone down a difficult path too early!

Skiing with children

Last but not least, we'd like to finish by sharing two final tips for those planning to ski with children:

  • The right clothes and equipment. When it comes to skiing with children, the right clothes and equipment are the first step. Nobody likes being cold and it can ruin any day.
  • Ski school turns them into professionals. Many children make faster progress when they have the opportunity to develop their skills in our popular ski school. This is simply because there is a difference between skiing with mum and dad and skiing with an experienced instructor.

To summarise

The desire to learn to ski will develop as soon as children realise how much fun it is. With lots of praise, fun and games, the skiing experience will be very positive and something the children will take with them to the next time.

Hopefully you're now as excited as we are to get out on the slopes and ski with the kids. When you want to hit the slopes, you are more than welcome to do so with us in Stöten. We offer Sweden's best skiing for the whole family. See you there!
