Playing biathlon - A perfect activity for children
Skiing can be very difficult, and for some children it does not come as naturally as for others. It is therefore important to involve a playfulness and a joy in the learning process. On the one hand, this can result in the child learning more quickly, while on the other hand, the situation is not as pressurised. One game that involves many elements is biathlon.
How does the game work?
Playing biathlon can work in different ways. The first step is to measure out a good distance for all participants to cover. This distance can vary depending on how small or big the children are. For smaller children, the distance does not need to be too long, while for older children the distance can be extended. If the children are older, a route with slightly varied terrain may be relevant.
Along the road, a number of stations will be placed. These should be similar to the stations on the biathlon tracks. Here you can use pea bags or balls, for example. Then a bucket can be used as a type of meeting point. It can be anything from the children hitting one to five pea bags/balls in the bucket to move on to the next stop.
The distance between the child and the bucket can also be varied depending on how small or big the children are. If the children are smaller, the distance can be reduced and if they are bigger, it can be advanced. Try out what works best for you!
Divide two teams and draw a start and finish line. Either one team starts first and is clocked or the teams start at the same time and the first to finish wins.
Why is this an effective and good game?
This game gives children the chance to practise their skiing, both technically and in terms of strength, and is also a good teamwork exercise. It involves skiing but also ball sense, accuracy and concentration.
Simply memorising techniques and skiing up and down the slopes can easily become monotonous and children tire easily. This gives a nuanced picture of what skiing can mean and inspires development. The game can also be varied and made easier and more difficult.
