Games on skis for children
It is important to create an inspiring and fun environment for the youngest children on the ski slopes. This is so that the children can develop but at the same time feel the joy and playfulness associated with skiing. We therefore thought we'd list a variety of games that you can introduce to the kids!
Bullock cart
Playing on hills is something that almost all children enjoy. In order for children to develop their skiing skills and feel confident on skis, it is perfect to combine this with playing on hills.
There are an infinite number of different types of hillocks - the only limit is your imagination. It can be anything from a hugging hill to a gingerbread hill. These games put skiing to the test in an undemanding and fun way.
Bollekar
It can be a fun idea to involve a ball in the game and on the ski slope. This could be a hill climb where the 'hill climber' has a ball to help them catch their mates. This is effective as children can practice their balance and focus on both skiing and the feeling of the ball at the same time.
Relays
There are hundreds of different relays you can run with your children. It can be anything from going backwards, going fast to rolling. You can also use balls, rings or other things in the relay to add even more playfulness. This involves a lot of joy and laughter and makes children feel good and safe. It is also a good and fun way to create a team spirit while practising skiing.
Follow John
The classic game "follow John" also works on skis. Here the imagination sets the limit and the children can come up with their own exercises. It creates a great team spirit and everyone can play at their own level.
Ski football
This game works in the same way as regular football except that the children wear skis. This creates a team spirit and puts co-operation skills into play. At the same time, children get to practice their skiing and technique - in a fun way!
Obstacle course
A fun way to practise skiing is through an obstacle course. It can be a slalom obstacle that the child has to get through or an obstacle that the child has to dodge and go under. There are endless obstacle courses to play around with!
These are some tips on games you can involve your children in. It is important to take into account the abilities and capacities of each individual child as they can vary enormously.
Games are a fun and undemanding way to learn and hopefully the child will want to continue skiing. It is important not to put too much pressure and focus on the fun!
